What is a jockey challenge?

A jockey challenge is a points race within a race meeting: every rider scores 3 points for a win, 2 for running second and 1 for third, and the rider with the most points when the last race is run wins the challenge.

How does the scoring work?

Riders earn 3 points for winning a race, 2 points for second and 1 point for third. Dead-heats share the points for the tied placing, which is why fractional scores like 2.5 appear. The leaderboard ranks riders by total points; ties share a rank.

What is a box challenge?

The greyhound version of the contest: starting boxes 1 to 8 score the same 3-2-1 points from each race's placings, and the box with the most points at the end of the meeting wins. Each box carries its traditional Australian rug colour.

What happens when a race is abandoned?

Abandoned races simply score no points. The meeting's board shows how many races were abandoned, and the challenge settles on the races that were actually run.

How often is this page updated?
